Climate Action and Sustainable Development

At The Mercy, we are committed to preparing students not only for examinations, but for the future world they will help shape. Climate Action and Sustainable Development is an exciting and forward-thinking senior cycle subject that encourages students to critically explore some of the most important global issues facing society today, including climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, social justice and responsible citizenship. This subject empowers students to become informed, reflective and active global citizens. Through engaging discussions, research, collaboration and project-based learning, students develop valuable skills in critical thinking, communication, problem-solving and leadership. Climate Action and Sustainable Development also encourages students to examine real-world issues and explore practical solutions that can positively impact both local and global communities. The Mercy is proud to offer this innovative subject choice as part of our commitment to inclusive, holistic and future-focused education. Our school has also been recognised for its strong commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness through its inclusion in a report written by Therese Myslinski, Munster Regional Coordinator for Education for Sustainability. The report highlighted the positive impact our school community is making in promoting sustainable practices, environmental responsibility and student engagement in climate action initiatives. Through this subject and our wider school initiatives, we aim to inspire students to become compassionate, informed and responsible leaders who can contribute positively to a more sustainable future.
